Only in Washington could politicians create a remedy that’s worse than the problem.
Most Americans have health care, and the quality of our doctors and hospitals is the envy of the world. The challenge is to increase access and lower costs, and the legislation passed in Congress over the weekend will do neither.
This bill will increase taxes on small businesses, create a government-run bureaucracy and cost over $1 trillion. This would be a bad approach in a thriving economy. In a recession, this is a disaster.
The Democrat candidates running for Congress must tell 6th District voters if they are on the side of patients, seniors and small businesses, or whether they support bigger government, higher taxes and more bureaucracy.
Mine is one of those, "I never thought it would happen to me stories", in the making.
I got a notice today that my current plan is being replaced with new options. Here are the highlights
Option 1:
-2 times the monthly cost, 2 times the copay
Option 2:
-15% higher monthly cost, 10 times higher deductible (which I must satisfy before coverage starts), maternity & Newborn Care NOT COVERED
Insurance companies can't be prosecuted under monopoly protection laws. Is this why somany states have so few options?
In our current or reformed system, how does a health insurance company win my business in a healthy and competitive marketplace?
I look at my options, throw my arms up in despair and say,
"so much for expanding my family"
and
"so much for my company minding its' health insurance costs"
