Bedford County Commissioners Endorse

Steve Welch for Senate

Steve’s momentum continues to grow across the state

Paoli, PA – Today Bedford County Commissioners Kirt Morris and Steven Howsare announced their support of Republican-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Steve Welch.

Commissioners Morris and Howsare commented: “Bedford County needs jobs.  Senator Casey has sat on the sidelines when it comes to getting the economy going again.  He has voted with the failed policies of President Obama 98% of the time.  Pennsylvania deserves more from their Senator.  Steve understands what it takes to build a company from the ground up.  He understands that centralizing power in Washington as Bob Casey and Barack Obama have done does not help create jobs.  Steve will make the people of Bedford County and Pennsylvania proud.  We are both thrilled to support his senate campaign.”

Mr. Welch added: “Having the support of these two great leaders from Bedford County means a great deal to me.  They are people who care about the future of this country.  They see that the Obama-Casey agenda has failed.  We continue to build a team of people that understand we need to win the hearts and minds of voters in order to bring them into our cause of fighting for a smaller, more limited and more fiscally responsible federal government.”

About Steve

The son of an engineer and teacher, Steve Welch grew up in Chester County, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University where he earned a Mechanical Engineering degree.  Steve, his wife Nicole, and their three young children live in Chester County.  Steve started his first major business enterprise, Mitos, in 2001 with hardly a cent to his name.  Under Steve’s guidance Mitos developed several critical patents which transformed the biological drug and vaccine industries.  The company still resides in Phoenixville, PA under Parker Hannifin guidance.  Following the sale of Mitos, Steve co-founded DreamIt Ventures, a new business accelerator model that has been featured in Forbes, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal as a new model for launching technology companies.  In just four years, DreamIt Ventures has helped launch 64 new companies.  From this experience, Steve has worked with hundreds of early stage entrepreneurs to turn their dreams into reality.  As an Eisenhower Fellow, Steve spent time in Asia and Europe studying all aspects of economic development, examining how government policy, technology, and culture impact job creation.  In 2010, Steve published We are all Born Entrepreneurs, in which he uses his story and those of over a dozen other entrepreneurs to explain what drives invention, innovation, and job creation.  In 2011, he founded the education technology company KinderTown, a business designed to help parents engage in their children’s education at an early age.

Senator Casey is Addicted to Washington’s

Culture of Wasteful Spending

Pennsylvania needs a senator who will

join Sen. Pat Toomey’s fight for taxpayers

Paoli, PA – Today, Senate Candidate Steve Welch released the following statement on Senator Casey’s vote against the Toomey-McCaskill Earmark Elimination Act today.

Mr. Welch commented: “Today the United State Senate attempted in a bipartisan fashion to take a major step towards openness and transparency with voting to end the practice of earmarks.  Senator Casey stood in the way.  This shows once again how addicted Bob Casey has become to Washington’s corrupt culture of wasteful spending.  If Casey is unwilling to vote against the most outrageous, the most wasteful, and the most secretive type of Washington spending, then there is no hope that he will ever do what’s necessary to tackle our $15 trillion national debt.  It’s no surprise since Senator Casey has been a prolific Earmarker throughout his time as Senator.  I applaud Senator Toomey for his leadership on this issue. Pennsylvania needs a senator who will join Sen. Pat Toomey’s fight for taxpayers, not one who will cancel out his vote.”

Toomey-McCaskill Earmark Elimination Act today

Earmarks are one of the most corrupting parts of Washington,

today is the day to end that practice

Paoli, PA – Today, Senate Candidate Steve Welch urged Senator Casey to vote Yes on the Toomey-McCaskill Earmark Elimination Act today.

Mr. Welch Commented: “Earmarks are one of the most corrupting parts of our political process today.  Senator Casey has a chance to vote Yes on Senator Toomey’s amendment to end earmarks. While Senator Casey has been a prolific Earmarker, today he has the opportunity to support a more open and transparent process.  I hope he does the right thing and votes to end the practice of earmarks”

Steve Welch Endorsed by the Republican State Committee

This endorsement serves as a major boost for Steve’s Campaign

Hershey, PA – Today, United States Senate candidate Steve Welch was endorsed by the Republican Party of Pennsylvania.  The members of the State Committee sent a clear message that they are ready to unite behind one candidate and make sure that Bob Casey is defeated in November.

Mr. Welch added: “I am humbled to have the support of the Republican State Committee.  It is truly an honor.  These are the people that are the grassroots of our party.  As a party and conservative movement it is time to unite to defeat the Obama-Casey agenda.  In the campaign that lies ahead, I will talk about my vision and values, and I will talk about Senator Bob Casey’s record of failure. I look forward to sharing my story, an American story of starting a small business from scratch, creating good jobs, and helping others to do the same.  America is the most innovative and most productive country in the world.  But it won’t stay that way if Bob Casey and Barack Obama continue to push us toward national bankruptcy.  I look forward to a spirited debate over the coming months about the future of this great country.”

Full prepared remarks:

Thank you State Committee!

It’s an incredible honor for to stand before you as the Republican Party endorsed candidate for the United States Senate.  I can promise you that I will make you proud of the decision you made here today.

Before I really get rolling here, I have a few people I really need to thank.

First, my wife Nikki.  Without her support I could not have taken on this endeavor.

Governor Corbett, your support is very humbling, and I thank you for it.

Chairman Gleason, Bob Asher, and Christine Toretti, thank you for the strong leadership you provide this party.

Most important, I want thank the membership of the State Committee.  This was your decision today.  I know you took your job very seriously.  And I greatly appreciate the trust you have placed in me.

Special thanks go to Ethan, Elaine, Wayne, Val, and so many others who have encouraged me every step of the way.

Now, it’s time to unite as a party and as a conservative movement for the very important battle that lies before us.  Our nation and our state are at a critical crossroads.  Too many of our citizens are out of work or struggling to stay in their homes.  When we look at Washington, there’s red ink as far as the eye can see, and career politicians who don’t have a clue about how the job creating private economy works.   That has to change.  It has to change now.  And Pennsylvania can make it happen this year.

In the campaign that lies ahead, I will talk about my vision and values, and I will talk about Senator Bob Casey’s record of failure.

When Bob Casey ran for office, he spoke about bringing an independent voice to Washington.  He talked about balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility.  But under Bob Casey’s watch, we’ve seen the size of the federal government explode.  And he has voted in lock step with the liberals in his party and supported the failed policies of this president 98% of the time.  The bailouts, the health care takeover, the cap and trade job killer, the stimulus spending bill that didn’t create jobs and stuck us with breathtaking levels of debt – Bob Casey voted for all of it.  I won’t ever let him get away with telling Pennsylvanians he’s an independent voice.  Bob Casey is nothing more than a rubber stamp for Barack Obama and Harry Reid’s big government, job killing liberal agenda.

Now, Casey will try to campaign as someone he is not.  I will campaign as who I am.  From the very first day I launched my candidacy, I’ve been completely open with the voters and with the people in this room about my own partisan history.  We have to be honest with ourselves.  In the previous decade, our party in Washington strayed from our conservative principles.  Republicans in Washington let earmarks and spending get totally out of control, and our elected officials got into all kinds of corruption scandals.  Our country and our party paid a price for that.  Right here in Pennsylvania, hundreds of thousands of people left our party because we failed to govern consistent with our core values.  I was one of those people.

But when I took one look at the extreme agenda coming from Obama, Casey, Reid, and Pelosi, I came back to the Republican Party with a vengeance.  But I didn’t just commit to being a Republican.  Partisanship is not what matters most to me.  I dedicated myself to making sure our party never again strayed from our principles.

And I wasn’t alone.  There were thousands more like me, and they gave us the great Tea Party revolution of 2010.  That Tea Party revolution helped elect Tom Corbett to the governorship and Pat Toomey to the US Senate, and it gave our Republican Party victories up and down the Pennsylvania ballot in 2010. That’s the fighting and winning spirit we must take into battle with us this year.

If we stick to our principles of smaller government, more freedom, traditional values, and fidelity to the Constitution, we will not only continue our success in Pennsylvania; but when we beat Barack Obama and Bob Casey this year, we will install our values in the White House and in a new Republican majority in the US Senate.

Second chances in life are a blessing.  In 2010, the people of Pennsylvania gave our party a second chance at governing.  As your US Senate nominee, I will travel to every corner of our state to bring back every one of the voters we lost a few years back.  I will share with them my story.  My story is an American story of starting a small business from scratch, creating good jobs, and helping others to do the same.  America is the most innovative and most productive country in the world.  But it won’t stay that way if Bob Casey and Barack Obama continue to push us toward national bankruptcy.

My friends, the stakes are high.  I am committed to fighting for our cause with every fiber of my being and in every hour of every day from now until November sixth.  But no candidate is ever successful if he’s working alone.  I need the full commitment of each and every one of you.

Together, we will win.  Together, we will make our Republican Party proud.  And most importantly, together we will restore the values that made America the greatest county in the history of the world.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your endorsement today.  I will make you proud.  Working together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.  Thank you and God bless.

Welch Releases New Video: 1,000 Days Without A Budget

Senator Casey has been up to a lot over the last 1,000 days

he just forgot about the budget

Paoli, PA – Today, candidate for United States Senate Steve Welch released a new video showing some of the things Senator Casey has done over the last 1,000 days.  Whether it be Card Check, ObamaCare, or Raising the Debt Limit Senator Casey has supported all of those measures, but has failed to get a budget passed in 1,000 days.

Mr. Welch added: “It amazes me that the United States Senate has failed to pass a budget in 1,000 days.  In those 1,000 days I have been involved with the creation of over 40 companies and every one of them had a budget. Senator Casey has shown no leadership on this front and clearly we need a Senator that understands what it takes to make a budget.  Only Bob Casey, who has spent his life in government, would think this is acceptable behavior. The people of Pennsylvania deserve better.”

Welch Urges Senator Casey to Protect

Freedom of Speech on the Internet

SOPA/PIPA is just another power grab

by those in Washington who see government as the solution

Paoli, PA – Today, Senate Candidate Steve Welch commented on the protest that is being held online by websites such as Wikipedia and Google.

Mr. Welch’s comments: “As someone who has been intimately involved in the startup of multiple web-based companies, this SOPA/PIPA legislation is the perfect example of how out–of-touch Washington is with the real world.  Protecting Intellectual Property Rights is something we need discuss.  However, SOPA/PIPA goes beyond that and is just another regulation being shoved down the throats of Americans that will empower the regulators and power brokers in Washington, and infringe on every citizen’s First Amendment rights.  Giving bureaucrats in Washington the power to shut down and censor websites based on very loosely-defined terms in this legislation is completely unacceptable.”

“Senator Casey has no clue how damaging this type of legislation could be and how it would affect people in the real world.  This is just another example of how Senator Casey sees the federal government as the solution.  He only knows how to grow government, since he has spent his life in government.”

Chester County Officials Endorse Steve Welch for Senate

Steve’s campaign continues to attract support

from elected officials across the state

Paoli, PA – Today the Welch for Senate Campaign announced the endorsements two Chester County elected officials.  Tom Hogan is the Chester County District Attorney and Representative Dan Truitt (R-156).  These endorsements add onto the growing number of elected officials who are getting behind the Welch campaign across the state.

Mr. Hogan added: “It is my honor to endorse Steve Welch to run for United States Senate.  There are two main reasons that I have chosen to endorse Steve. First, Steve will be a loyal supporter of law enforcement.  He understands that the role of government should be limited, but that one of those appropriate government roles is to protect the public by maintaining strong law enforcement.  Steve supports the appropriate use of the death penalty, especially in cases where criminals have murdered a member of law enforcement.  Finally, Steve believes that strong law enforcement is an investment in keeping our families and businesses safe and thriving.”

“Second, I endorse Steve because he is a successful business person, not merely a career politician.  He is an entrepreneur, a business-builder who has proven that he can compete and succeed in the real economic world.  We need leaders who have proven that they can lead before they go into politics.  Steve has proven that he has the ability to make hard choices and succeed.  This is the type of leadership that we need in today’s United States.”

Mr. Truitt added: “I am proud to endorse Steve’s candidacy for United States Senate. The people of the 156th district are looking for a Senator that will lead, not follow.  Senator Casey does not have the experience is the private sector to understand how damaging the policies coming out of Washington today are.  Many experts believe that the jobs we have lost to other countries are not coming back.  We need leaders who know how to enable entrepreneurs to start new businesses that will create new jobs here in the United States. With his private sector experience, Steve Welch will be just such a leader. We need a Senator that understands what it takes to balance a budget, make a payroll, and has had to make tough decisions on what bills to pay when times are tough.  Steve Welch will be a leader that the people of not only the 156th district can be proud of, but the people of Pennsylvania can be proud of. Steve will be a great ally to Senator Toomey in Washington.”

Steve Welch added: “These are two of the finest elected officials I know.  Both Dan and Tom are fantastic representatives and I am honored to have their support.  They understand that the career politicians in Washington are not willing to make the tough decisions that are needed today, since they are too worried about their reelection campaigns. We need people in Washington that are going to do what is right for the people of Pennsylvania and not worry about protecting their careers.”

Lehigh County Commissioner

Lisa Scheller Endorses Welch for Senate

Another County official gets behind Steve Welch

Paoli, PA – Today, US Senate Candidate Steve Welch announced the support of Lehigh County Commissioner Lisa Scheller.

Lisa commented: “One of the most glaring problems is the lack of entrepreneurs and small business owners in Washington. At the same time there is a surplus of career politicians like Bob Casey.  As an entrepreneur Steve has seen how difficult the policies of the Obama-Casey agenda have made it for business to get off the ground.  As a small business owner and an elected official I believe Steve is exactly the type of person we need in Washington.  I believe he gives the Republican Party the best chance to defeat Bob Casey and will be a strong ally for Senator Toomey.”

Mr. Welch added: “I am thrilled to have the support of someone like Lisa.  She is a small business owner who decided to get involved. She is the type of person we need to be involved to get this country back on the right track.  She is a great addition to the team.”

PoliticsPA Story: Al Schmidt Endorses Welch for Senate

December 8, 2011

Al Schmidt Endorses Welch for Senate

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

One of Philadelphia’s most popular Republicans has endorsed Chester County entrepreneur Steve Welch for U.S. Senate.

Al Schmidt, who recently won election to Philadelphia City Commission, threw his support behind Welch today. He takes office in January after an uphill campaign against incumbent Joseph Duda. Schmidt is also the former Executive Director of the GOP City Committee and the de facto leader of a new guard of Philly Republicans that has emerged in recent years.

“The people of Pennsylvania will be well served by having Steve Welch as their U.S. Senator,” Schmidt said. “Steve will bring real solutions to getting this economy back on track. He will bring an understanding of what it takes to create jobs, which is desperately needed in today’s economy.”

Schmidt holds a Ph.D. in political history from Brandeis University and has the reputation of a reformer and a technocrat. Along with fellow newcomer, Democrat Stephanie Singer, he is expected to bring the Commissioners office into the 21st century. The office oversees elections in the city of Brotherly Love.

“I am proud to have Al Schmidt on our team. We need leaders like Al who are willing to put the people of Philadelphia in front of political expediency,” Welch said.

The endorsement is a nice pickup for Welch, as strong support in southeast Pa. is a key part of his victory equation.

It’s been a busy week for Welch, one of just two Philadelphia-area candidates now that Pa. Senator Dominic Pileggi(R-Delaware) has taken a pass on a bid (the other is David Christian, of Bucks County). He has rolled out a number of other new supporters.

Wayne Woodman, leader of the Lehigh County GOP who hosted fundraisers for Charlie Dent and Pat Toomey, recently came on as his eastern Pa. finance co-chairman.

On Monday the campaign named Jeff Kendall, CEO of Liberty Tire Recycling,  LLC, as western Pa. finance co-chairman. Kendall was named a CEO of the year by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in its July Tech Awards. PoliticsPAreported last week that two of Pittsburgh’s top GOP fundraisers, Carey Dunn and Amy Petraglia, also signed on with Welch.

Finally, Welch named the inaugural members of his Grassroots Advisory Board – a collection of Tea Party and other conservative leaders mostly in southeast Pa:

Rich Davis, Chester County Sheepdogs; Sean Carpenter, Vice President, Independence Hall Tea Party Political Action Committee, Chester County; Karl Bucus, PA Watercooler [and a GOP committeeman from Chesco]; Barry Papiernik and Lisa Mossie of Live and Local, WFYL, Montgomery County; and Ethan Demme, Chairman Lancaster County GOP.
