Creating Jobs – Restoring the American Dream

Too many people are out of work. Too many businesses are closing, or shrinking. We must turn this around — for our neighbors, our region and our nation.

We cannot turn around our economy if we focus on short-term fixes powered by increased deficit spending.

As the global economy plays a larger role in our region’s economic development, it is increasingly clear that we cannot wait for Washington, D.C. to create jobs in the 6th District. Steve believes that in order to create jobs we must build a regional plan in southeastern Pennsylvania that pools local resources and talent to attract new investments, and allows existing businesses to grow.

Our region has one of the most diverse and talented systems of higher education, and Steve is working to increase the rate of technology transfer out of our university system to spur new companies and high quality jobs here in the 6th District.
To ensure that we can attract new investments and spur job creation, Steve is working with regional leaders to address our current needs while providing a long term vision that will enable our economy to adapt for today, tomorrow and our next generation, too.

Protecting America – Defending Democracy

While the United States remains a beacon of hope for the world, it also is a constant target of those who seek to destroy everything she represents.

We are blessed with servicemen and women who dedicate their lives to protecting us from these enemies. Steve believes it is vital that we provide the necessary tools, technology and funding so that the brave men and women in the military have the resources they need to do their jobs. By being strong, by using our resources wisely, we can remain safe and free.

In addition, Congress must honor the commitments made to our veterans, and ensure that they receive the benefits, care and respect they earned through their service and sacrifices.

Improving Healthcare – Protecting Patients

American doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies provide the best complete medical care in the world. But, the costs are out of control. And, too often, the red tape gets in the way. We must do better.

While our nation’s health care system is in need of repair, we must not increase the role that the government plays in providing healthcare. The solution must protect patients, not make us powerless.

Steve does not believe that the solution is a government-run, single-payer system.

We must empower individuals to have better information and control over their care so that patients and care providers are making the decisions, not bureaucrats—or, name-less, face-less insurance company analysts.

Any solution to this problem must provide individuals with choices, and utilize the strengths of our nation’s competitive marketplace.

Eliminating Government Waste – Using Our Money Wisely

Our government runs best when it is run efficiently. As our nation goes further and further in debt—borrowing money from foreign nations, it is more important than ever that we have elected officials with the leadership and independence to eliminate wasteful spending.

Over the past several years, there have been countless examples of wasteful government programs and projects. Steve believes that our government should have the same goals that any successful business does: lowering costs while providing better services. Government must approach spending the way our families do — set priorities; live within your means; and, don’t waste money.

After all, when the government spends, we are the ones who foot the bill. Today, Congress is spending so fast that they are not only saddling us with debt, they are putting our children and grandchildren in debt.

We need leaders in Congress who have the experience and a track record of supporting ideas and programs that succeed, and eliminating those that don’t. Steve’s independence and new approach to solving problems is just what we need.

Educating our Children – Preparing for America’s Future

As Americans, we have the ability to provide our children with the best education in the world. But, too often, we are failing.

Our education system is being crushed by mandates and regulations. Teachers aren’t able to teach. Good teachers can’t be rewarded; nor can the bad teachers be fired.

Steve’s Eisenhower Fellowship has allowed him to travel across the world to see firsthand how our competitors are training their workforce, and he has new ideas on how we can improve the quality of education while ensuring more students have access to this essential tool.

We must set rigorous standards in math and reading, encourage our children to think and write; and, we must prepare them to use the technology of the 21st century.

Also, in order to strengthen our nation’s workforce, we must increase access to higher education, and create unique incentives and programs to stop the “brain-drain” in our region. Southeastern Pennsylvania must have the resources and workforce to answer the needs of a broadening economy.

As our economy continues to shift into a global marketplace, so does our competition. Steve believes that the strongest long-term investment for our nation’s economy is a found in a quality education.
