Education
Education is a great passion of mine and it is the most important ingredient to the long term success of our society.
The brilliance of our founding fathers was their creation of a limited and decentralized federal government. Nowhere has the benefit of this been illustrated better than in our education system. Until recent years, we had thousands of experiences going on in different school districts across our great country. This localized education system is what has made America the most innovative society that the world has ever seen and provided us with a standard of living that is unavailable to people living in other parts of the world.
In recent years, the federal government has taken on a larger role in education. Bills like “No Child Left Behind” have moved in the direction of centralizing our education systems and removing decision making from our communities. Predictably, the results have been poor and the American education system has become less competitive. Now is the time we return decision making to our own communities.
In addition, there is now overwhelming evidence that competition in our education system improves outcomes and reduces cost; therefore, we must encourage school choice and charter schools.
Even with these steps, it is important to acknowledge that the most important aspect of a child’s education in parental involvement. We need to pursue policies as a country that makes it easier for parents to be involved with their children’s education.
