Jobs & Economy

Government can create an environment that helps produce economic growth and job creation. Government can also destroy that economic environment. Over the past decade, we have seen a continual growth in the size and scope of government. Over the last three years, we have seen a president who has coupled this increase in the role of the federal government, with outright hostility toward our businesses and job creators.

To get the economy back on track and creating jobs, we must:

1) Cut and Cap Spending, and Balance the Budget. That is, we must cut federal spending significantly, place a cap on overall spending levels as a percentage of our economy, and pass a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. This will tell America and the world that our government is going to live within its means, and provide our job creators the confidence they need to invest in their business without the fear of a huge tax burden or total currency meltdown down the road.

2) Simplify the Tax Code and Reduce Rates. The tax code is literally 4 feet tall. Unless you are a PhD in mathematics from Penn, you cannot make sense of it. In fact, I know PhDs who still cannot make sense of it. By simplifying the tax code, we will increase the efficiency of our society which will in turn lead to economic growth and job creation. Tax reform will remove the power of the lobbyists to corrupt our free markets. This will allow companies to compete on a level playing field, instead of Washington picking winners and losers. We must provide our job creators with certainty about future tax policy and rates, allowing them to invest in their businesses, which will create jobs.

3) Eliminate Job Killing Regulations. It is time to return to common sense in this country. Since the government has decided to regulate just about everything business does, businesses do not know what will come next, so they are sitting on their hands instead of investing in their companies. Overburdening our businesses with regulatory costs makes them less competitive in a global environment and destroys American jobs. Congress should work with industry to examine the effect of each regulation on job creation, and work to repeal all regulations that have no positive impact, while destroying jobs. In addition, all future legislation should be examined for how it will impact jobs in this country. Every bill in Congress should be scored by the CBO, to provide a look at the impact of the spending on jobs creation

4) Provide an Energy Policy that leads to energy independence. – See Energy Policy section.

5) Repeal ObamaCare – See Healthcare Policy section.

If we follow this prescription, we will see our economy roar ,and American job growth boom once again. America is the most innovative and efficient country in the world. We simply need to get government out of the way.
