Term Limits

As an engineer, I like to find the root causes of a problem. We have a government that is gridlocked, while at the same time, clearly unwilling to make the difficult choices that lay ahead of us. The fundamental cause of this situation is career politicians who are more worried about their next election than doing what is best for our country.

While many may go to Washington well intentioned, clear evidence shows that the longer politicians are in Washington, the more fiscally irresponsible their voting record becomes.

The longer they are a part of government, the more they feel the government should have an increased involvement in people’s lives and our economy.

We must return to our Founders’ notion of citizen legislators, not career politicians. I support term limits for members of Congress. Twelve years in the Senate or House is enough to achieve one’s respective goals.

This will get at the root cause of the problem because it will create a completely different mentality and dynamic within Congress. We will have citizens focused on solving the nation’s problems, as opposed to politicians focused on saving their careers.
